"Receiving this award is a profound affirmation of my dedication to the pursuit of knowledge and service in the field of medicine. It represents a validation of my passion for contributing to healthcare and making a positive impact on the lives of others. This award is more than a financial boost; it is a vote of confidence in my potential to make meaningful contributions to the medical community and encouragement to keep going. I am profoundly grateful for the support that will undoubtedly shape my educational journey and future career in medicine."

"Growing up in Nigeria, I saw firsthand what it was like to be deprived of proper medical care. I witnessed people suffering not because their illnesses were untreatable, but because they could not afford treatment or did not have a doctor. Those experiences transformed me. They taught me that medicine is not merely a science and the knowledge, it's about people, about compassion, about fighting for those who have no one else to fight for them. Your generosity has shown me that there are people out there who share concern about students such as myself, students who do not necessarily come from wealth but are dedicated to using medicine to change the world."

"I truly do not have the words to fully express how grateful I am to receive this scholarship. It is an incredible blessing and I am deeply honored to have been chosen. After sustaining a major injury that left me unable to work for three months, I faced mounting stress both physically and financially. This award allows me to stay focused on my goal of becoming the best nurse I can be, someone who is equipped to care for others with compassion, knowledge and dedication."

"As a single mother of three working multiple jobs to support my family, this scholarship represents more than financial assistance. It symbolizes hope and possibility. When I lost my mother to lung cancer after years of misdiagnosis, I promised myself I would honor her legacy by becoming the kind of nurse who advocates fiercely for proper patient care. I promise to honor this opportunity by striving for excellence in my nursing practice and becoming a compassionate advocate for those whose voices often go unheard in our healthcare system."

"Growing up in Nigeria, I witnessed the challenges many people face due to limited access to quality healthcare, and I always admired how my mother, without formal medical training, managed to comfort and care for us during times of illness. Her strength, selflessness and intuitive care planted the seed in me to pursue a profession that embodies those same values. Nursing to me is not just a profession, it is a calling to serve, to advocate and to heal with both knowledge and empathy. Thank you for investing in my future. I am truly humbled by this support and I promise to carry forward the values of compassion, resilience and service in all that I do as a future nurse."

"I chose to pursue a career in medicine because I believe deeply in the power of healing not just the body but of the whole person. My parents immigrated to the United States from Nigeria in search of economic opportunity and a better life for our family. Watching their sacrifices and the barriers they faced in accessing healthcare planted the seed of my passion. I aspire to be the kind of physician who sees patients not just as a set of symptoms or lab results, but as whole individuals with unique stories, struggles and strengths. I am committed to making a difference wherever I go and will make you proud by becoming not only a capable physician but also one who leads with empathy, purpose and gratitude."

“Veterinary medicine chose me more than I chose it Initially, I wanted to pursue human medicine. As I progressed through my undergraduate degree, the community and path did not feel like a good fit. At that time, I began volunteering as a dog walker at the local humane society. Upon graduation I looked back at my time during those years and realized that the moments I spent with the animals were the most meaningful and fulfilling. This led me to pursue a diploma as a veterinary assistant. I fell in love with this world I had found and the only natural step was to return to medicine with a focus on animals. This scholarship not only affirms my path but also helps makes it possible. I hope to make The Lanse T. Fox Memorial Organization proud of the vet I become."

“When asked the question "why do you want to become a veterinarian?" I feel joy when I reflect on the journey that has brought me to this point in my life. Growing up in a family of academics and researchers, my curiosity about the world developed quickly. I am especially thankful for my grandmother. My nana taught me about the beauty of silent observation, the importance of respecting living organisms and finding harmony with nature. This early experience ignited my passion and deepened my appreciation for nature and all living things. Your support means the world to me and will help me to further focus on becoming the best veterinarian I can be and continue to contribute meaningfully to my community."

“I chose the field of counseling because I understand the deep importance of holistic well-being and the vital role mental health plays in our lives. Growing up in a developing country, I witnessed firsthand how limited access to mental health services, and a lack of awareness, prevented many individuals and families from seeking the help they needed. This personal experience shaped my lifelong purpose to the importance of mental health. Your belief in students like me is not only an investment in our futures but also in the well-being of the communities we will go on to serve."

“I chose a career in mental health because I am deeply passionate about helping individuals find healing, stability and purpose amid life's most difficult challenges. Mental health care is not just about treating symptoms; it's about restoring hope, dignity and function. I want to be a provider who sees the whole person and advocates for equity in access to care. Receiving this scholarship is not only an honor but also a reminder that my goals align with a greater mission of using education to create meaningful change."
